Your certificate will expire three years from the date of certification. Please note that your employer and / or educational institution may require you to re-certify sooner.

All of our Hamilton & Stoney Creek first aid and cpr certification courses include MANDATORY AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR TRAINING

An automated external defibrillator (or AED) can greatly increases the chances of survival during a cardiac arrest well over 50% if applied as soon as possible.  For every minute that passes by, the chances of survival drop 10-12%.  All students will learn how to properly set up and deliver a high voltage shock to the body in order to restore a normal heart beat rhythm in which restores blood flow to the brain.

When you attend our first aid CPR AED certification classes in Brampton, you will become trained to confidently use an automated external defibrillator!

OPIOID OVERDOSE NALOXONE TRAINING

As of March 2021, The Academy for First Aid and Safety (under the directive from The Canadian Red Cross) will now teach Naloxone training for opioid poisonings for all CPR classes.  This includes CPR, Emergency first aid and CPR, and Standard first aid and CPR.

  • CHAPTER ONE: HISTORY OF THE RED CROSS 9:00am-9:15am

    History of The Red Cross Society: Learn about The Red Cross's rich history, their seven fundamental principals, and what they do for Canadians as well as for countries all around the world!

  • CHAPTER TWO: PREPARING TO RESPOND 10:15am-10:30am

    Preparing to respond all starts at home! From understanding the importance of having a first aid kit at home, to protecting yourself legally, and from disease transmission and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)!

  • CHAPTER THREE: CHECK, CALL, CARE! 10:30am-11:00am

    A primary survey is one of the most crucial surveys one must understand in order to deploy first aid in the most timely fashion possible! Furthermore, understanding how to perform injury checks are crucial for critical care while paramedics are being dispatched to the scene.

  • CHAPTER FOUR: CHOKING: 11:00am-11:30am

    Participants will learn to differentiate between a partial and complete blockage, and learn why it happens, how to prevent choking, and most of all, the crucial skills on how to clear the blockage.

  • CHAPTER FIVE: CIRCULATION EMERGENCIES: 11:30am-12:00pm

    Did you know that the number one cause of death in Canada is NOT Covid-19, but heart attack and stroke? Almost 70,000 Canadians die each year due to coronary artery disease. Learn how to prevent, detect, and care for heart attacks and strokes. Participants will also learn how to stop deadly bleeding through the use of medical bandages and proper use of a tourniquet.

  • LUNCH 12:00pm-12:30pm

    Take a break and relax and enjoy plenty of bench seating, an amazing lounge, and an ample restaurants to satisfy your hunger during lunch period!

  • CHAPTER SIX: CPR AND AED USE: 12:30pm-1:45PM

    This chapter is the most intensive chapter out of the entire class! Everyone will learn how to perform CPR on a patient that is not breathing, which manually pumps oxygen rich blood to the brain in the event of a cardiac arrest. Are you confident to use an automated external defibrillator to save someone's life? You definitely will after you take this class! AED use can look intimidating at first, but in the end you will realize how easy it was all along! In fact, an AED can increase a person's chances of survival well past 50%, which depends on one metric: TIME!

    Participants will learn how to care for three life threatening breathing emergencies: Hyperventilation, asthma, and anaphylaxis. Generally, when it comes to asthma and anaphylaxis, you don't have much time to remedy the situation. Your main objective is to administer life threatening medication to open the airway and to make breathing much easier, through thorough use of an asthma inhaler and an epinephrine auto injector. As of March 2021, naloxone training is now included!

  • CHAPTER EIGHT: WOUND CARE 2:00PM-2:15PM

    Participants will learn how to care for various wounds. Wounds include burns from heat, burns from chemicals, burns from electricity, bruises, knocked out teeth, impaled objects, eye injuries, chest injuries, crush injuries, etc.

  • END OF CLASS QUIZ: 2:15PM-2:30PM

    Staying still is the number one priority when it comes to a head, neck, and spine injury. Participants will also learn "the approach" which is a strategic approach to help someone in the event of such injury. This chapter also goes more in depth, touching base on concussions to the head: How to identify one and how to care for a concussion.

  • CHAPTER TEN: BONE, MUSCLE, AND JOINT INJURIES: 3:05PM-4:00PM

    Participants will learn how to immobilize an injury, such as a sprain, strain, dislocation, and/or fracture through the use of splints and slings. We are proud to still teach this chapter during Covid-19 through the use of artificial full body mannequins, as opposed to contact with another participant. Stay safe, and still learn these crucial hands on skills!

  • CHAPTER ELEVEN: SUDDEN MEDICAL EMERGENCIES 4:00PM-4:15PM

    Do you know the crucial steps on how to care for someone suffering from a diabetic emergency? Or how about a seizure? Would you know how to substitute glucose tablets if these tablets were not available? You will when you learn chapter 11!

  • CHAPTER TWELVE: ENVIRONMENTAL ILLNESSES: 4:15PM-4:30PM

    Heat exhaustion / stroke, and frostbite / hypothermia is the main focus for this chapter. Learn how to bring the temperature of the body back to normal levels trough a series of crucial protocols.

  • CHAPTER THIRTEEN: POISONS: 4:30PM-5:10PM

    There are many ways someone can get poisoned: Through inhaled to a snake or spider bite, the scenarios can get quite scary! We are proud to now offer opioid awareness training, which teaches participants how to detect an opioid overdose, and how to administer naloxone, both through injection and through the nose.
