History of The Red Cross Society: Learn about The Red Cross's rich history, their seven fundamental principals, and what they do for Canadians as well as for countries all around the world!

  • CHAPTER TWO: PREPARING TO RESPOND 10:15am-10:30am

Preparing to respond all starts at home! From understanding the importance of having a first aid kit at home, to protecting yourself legally, and from disease transmission and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)!

  • CHAPTER THREE: CHECK, CALL, CARE! 10:30am-11:00am

A primary survey is one of the most crucial surveys one must understand in order to deploy first aid in the most timely fashion possible! Furthermore, understanding how to perform injury checks are crucial for critical care while paramedics are being dispatched to the scene.

  • CHAPTER FOUR: CHOKING: 11:00am-11:30am

Participants will learn to differentiate between a partial and complete blockage, and learn why it happens, how to prevent choking, and most of all, the crucial skills on how to clear the blockage.

  • CHAPTER FIVE: CIRCULATION EMERGENCIES: 11:30am-12:00pm

Did you know that the number one cause of death in Canada is NOT Covid-19, but heart attack and stroke? Almost 70,000 Canadians die each year due to coronary artery disease. Learn how to prevent, detect, and care for heart attacks and strokes. Participants will also learn how to stop deadly bleeding through the use of medical bandages and proper use of a tourniquet.

  • LUNCH 12:00pm-12:30pm

Take a break and relax inside Improve Canada Shopping Mall, enjoy plenty of bench seating, an amazing lounge, and an on site food court to satisfy your hunger during lunch period!

  • CHAPTER SIX: CPR AND AED USE: 12:30pm-1:45PM

This chapter is the most intensive chapter out of the entire class! Everyone will learn how to perform CPR on a patient that is not breathing, which manually pumps oxygen rich blood to the brain in the event of a cardiac arrest. Are you confident to use an automated external defibrillator to save someone's life? You definitely will after you take this class! AED use can look intimidating at first, but in the end you will realize how easy it was all along! In fact, an AED can increase a person's chances of survival well past 50%, which depends on one metric: TIME!

  • CHAPTER SEVEN: BREATHING EMERGENCIES 1:45PM-2:00PM

Participants will learn how to care for three life threatening breathing emergencies: Hyperventilation, asthma, and anaphylaxis. Generally, when it comes to asthma and anaphalaxis, you don't have much time to remedy the situation. Your main objective is to administer life threatening medication to open the airway and to make breathing much easier, through thorough use of an asthma inhaler and an epinephrine auto injector.

  • CHAPTER EIGHT: WOUND CARE 2:00PM-2:15PM

Participants will learn how to care for various wounds. Wounds include burns from heat, burns from chemicals, burns from electricity, bruises, knocked out teeth, impaled objects, eye injuries, chest injuries, crush injuries, etc.

  • END OF CLASS QUIZ: 2:15PM-2:30PM

Your quiz contains 20 questions and is multiple choice. A minimum of 75% is required to successfully pass the written quiz component of this class.
