The food service industry is a big part of the Canadian economy. It includes people working in the many different parts of food service, like restaurants and grocery stores, and factories that process, package and ship food to those restaurants and stores.

It’s well known that there’s a need for special standards in the food industry because:

– There is a potential for the spread of disease and illness through food.
– Customers want to know that the food is safe in the places they buy their food.

As a result, it is a regulation for all food workers to have food handling certification on Ontario to mitigate the risk of food poisoning.  At The Academy for First Aid and Safety, we will teach all participants the core fundamentals of safe food handling and storage.  17 core topics include:

  • – Introduction to Food Safety.
  • – Foodborne Illnesses.
  • – Microorganisms.
  • – Time and Temperature.
  • – Receiving and Storage.
  • – Microbiological Contamination.
  • – Personal Hygiene.
  • – Cleaning and Sanitizing.
  • – Pest Control.
  • – Food Safety Management.
  • – Safe Cooking & Reheating Temperatures of
    – Hazardous Food.
  • – Critical Temperatures.
  • – Dishwashing in a Three Compartment Sink.
  • – Food Handler’s Storage Guide.
  • – Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP).
  • – Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA).

Qualified Instructors

Our instructors are certified Canadin Red Cross first aid and safety instructors, teaching first aid, CPR, and food handler province wide!

In-class & Interactive:

We believe that food handler training should be done in a classroom, NOT online. Not all employers would accept online training due to the fact that students will always have questions. Plus, a classroom is always more interactive, and HANDS ON.
